Carlsbad Relay for Life 2007
This year’s 24-hour Relay For Life® in Carlsbad was a resounding success. The event brought together more than 300 participants, who raised over $45,000 for the American Cancer Society.
I want to thank everyone who supported the Key Interior Design Team during the event. This was the first year that we were involved and we are already making plans to participate again next year.

Our team at the opening ceremony.
The relay was much more than a walk around a track. It was a time to remember those lost to cancer and celebrate those surviving. It was a time for people who have shared similar experiences to comfort and console one another and an opportunity to learn from each other.
Everyone from our team had a friend or family member that has battled with cancer. It was an honor to hear and share stories about these people and how they have made an impact on our lives. We celebrated life, friendship, and a chance to work together toward a cancer-free future.

Key Interiors Team, campsite and information booth.
A commonly asked question was “Why do you Relay?” For me, I was walking for my mom who continues to survive cancer and my grandfather who passed away several years ago from complications related to a cancerous brain tumor.
Not only did we achieve personal and fundraising goals, but our team was also given the award for “Best Theme” from the American Cancer Society. This award was given for the use of decorations portraying the theme at our campsite and information booth. Our goal was to make our campsite look like a big beach party, festive and colorful. The team even brought in a fire pit to roast marshmallows during the evening. We hoped to attract as many people as possible to our information booth so we could share the really useful information about Health and Nutrition we found on the American Cancer Society’s web site www.cancer.org.

Dancing laps around the track.
Our dance challenge raised extra
$$ for the relay.
During the Relay, Key Interiors’ team gathered with 16 other teams at Carlsbad High School to walk the track. Each member of our team took turns either walking or running, sometimes dancing and even hopping around the track. When we asked the coordinator of the Relay “What is the reason to have a team member on the track for all 24 hours of the event?” he said “Cancer doesn’t stop, so neither will we.”
Everyone on our team loved being part of the event. We all agreed that it felt good knowing that we have helped in the fight to equip many against a disease that has affected so many of our lives.
